Story ideas permeate my mind like the aroma of freshly-baked brownies permeate your senses. Did I want the crispy brownie in the corner of the pan, or the gooey, decadent one nestled in the middle? Choosing a story to create is just like choosing dessert. What better dessert than erotica? Being a writer of serious drama, I was certain this would shock my friends. Actually, it has… the ones I’ve told anyway.
But why tell them all? Secrets are so delicious.
With the popularity of erotica on the rise, I didn’t want to hop on the bandwagon without being able to offer my readers something different. Special. Unique. Every shade of hot.
So, I did what a practical girl does; I started researching. Why? Because I don’t read erotica. I had no bar of comparison. But as I dove into other novels, one theme kept popping up… women’s fantasies of taming the bad boy. Then it hit me… in real life you can’t ever expect a person to change for you. Oh, I get that this genre is all about fantasy. I will give you fantasy, taking you behind closed doors, making your heart pound out of your chest, and explore the kind of lust, sex and love that will make you blush and in need of ten cold showers. When I do something, I do it all the way. I suggest you set your oscillating fans on high.
But I do it in a way that doesn’t set you up for failure. Because, like it or not, chasing fantasies in life does set you up for failure.
I put the research down and decided to write erotica my way, not another writer’s way. I don’t want you to put my novels down and think your life can’t compare to my heroine’s. I want you to be able to take her lessons into your own world, sexual and otherwise. If my heroine can find love and passion, so can you.
Perhaps we need to redefine what “fantasy” means. I am determined to reinvent the word, taking you on a fantasy of discovering passion through my characters. What is love? Is it kinky sex with a man who makes you feel alive for the first time in years? Is it an ex-husband who still can’t let go of the dream of a perfect family? Or is it a man who would lay down his life for you, never asking anything in return?
Explore love and sexual discovery with my recently-divorced heroine, Nina Patterson. She doesn’t have to tame a man or be degraded by one in order to find love. She’ll discover it in the most unexpected of ways, and you’ll discover it with her, feeling every bit of her pleasure.
Love doesn’t have to hurt to be hot.
